How do restaurant tips work?

We authorize an extra 20% on restaurant purchases to cover a 20% tip on top of your bill, so when they swipe your card, it actually authorizes for more than the amount it says on the bill. Don’t worry, though, any amount held in excess of the settled restaurant transaction (with your tip applied) is returned to your account, which is typically on the next business day.
